Meet Laura

Why, hello! I am Laura, an Associate Licensed Counselor. I am a compassionate, personable, and spirited individual with a fervor for life and a passion for human resiliency. My purpose as a licensed counselor is to help you move forward in your life journey with courage and creativity as you continue on a powerful path of becoming. I work with individuals across the lifespan suffering from not only trauma, depression, anxiety, and attachment concerns, but also grief, emotional dysregulation, low self-concept, and fear of abandonment.

I earned my Master of Science degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Loyola University New Orleans, and my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Musical Theater/Acting from Carnegie Mellon University. My whole life (starting as young as 5 years old!) I thought I was called to be an actress and performer and had the goal to be on Broadway. After my own therapeutic repair and powerful transformative moments, in my twenties and the beginning of my thirties, I slowly gained clarity on my true passion and purpose. This purpose is to use my tender, sensitive spirit, and my empathetic heart to help others move through their suffering into a place of restoration and healing. The moment where the chrysalis becomes the butterfly!

My relationship with my best friend and husband, Patrick, began as childhood friends and duet partners in children’s chorus and high school drama. We adore food, movies, television, theater, music, and our two rascal cats. I also love cheering on my LSU Tigers, mental health maintenance walks, and I have a deep relationship with my emotional support water bottle. My spiritual life keeps me aligned and anchored..

My Approach

I believe wholeheartedly that if a person is able to develop an ability to access their own courage, vulnerability, and grace for themselves and others, beautiful therapeutic change can occur. As your counselor, I see my relationship with you as someone who will stand steadfastly beside you in a bond of trust, unconditional positive regard, and empathy as you face the full catastrophe we call “being alive”. Together, we can build a creative and functional toolbox to help you approach life. The goal is for you to thrive through the moments of joy, the in-between, and yes... even in moments of sadness. Throughout our process, my hope is that you uncover patterns from the past that are contributing to your present pain.

I work primarily from a Relational Cultural Theory framework, believing that building connection and mutual understanding, between you and me has the potential to create healing emotional experiences and repair feelings of isolation and disconnection. The thought is that if you can do it with me in the room, you have the potential to do it out there. I also incorporate Family Systems Theory, where we explore how you function in relationships, how this may no longer be serving you, and develop new ways to connect with others. I believe in working with you holistically, helping you to understand that your brain, emotions, and your body are all interconnected. By attending to all three in session, the intention is that your mental health can become aligned and anchored.

Ultimately, I believe you can do this, and I hope to be a fellow traveler with you on your path towards mental health recovery, shame repair, and a rediscovery of your zest. Whether in-person or through a confidential and HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform, I can’t wait to meet you.
